National Indigenous People's Day (NIPD) is an important day to celebrate and remember the beauty, legacy, contributions and culture of First Nations, Metis and Inuit people in Canada.

As a sign of our commitment as Vineyard churches to walk together on the journey of reconciliation, it is really important to find ways to participate in engaging our hearts, minds, prayers and actions for this important day and month.

Participate: Find out what is happening in your area on and around June 21st and commit to being present by bringing family and/or friends and /or your church community with you. Take time today and the rest of the month to reflect together on what you are experiencing and pray for what God is revealing.

Engage: Watch an Indigenous documentary or movie; celebrate Indigenous art and crafts, read books or articles by Indigenous writers. Enjoy or make an Indigenous meal. Take time today and this month to reflect and share with others and pray for what God is revealing.

Pray: Find out what First Nations land you are living or worshiping on and learn about the people of the land there. Take time to learn how to pronounce the First nations name and pray a prayer of blessing for the Indigenous people in your area. Pray a prayer of blessing for Indigenous friends and colleagues you know and for their families, and find ways to celebrate who they are.

'The Lord bless the wonderful Indigenous people of Canada and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.' (A prayer of blessing, adapted from Numbers 6:24-26)
